Chronobiology, from the Greek χρόνος chrónos ‘time’ and from biology (‘study of life’), is a branch of biology that studies the periodic (cyclical) phenomena in living organisms and their adaptation to the relative solar and lunar rhythms. These cycles are known as biological rhythms. Chronobiological studies find application in different disciplines such as comparative anatomy, physiology, genetics, molecular biology and ethology of individuals.
